Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif or Priyanka Chopra – which of these heroines will get the chance to play Amitabh Bachchan’s daughter in Shoojit Sircar’s Piku? It was originally going to be Parineeti Chopra, but the Ishaqzaade actor chose a big banner film over a role opposite Big B instead; the Shuddh Desi Romance star has no regrets, she says, and is sure that she will bag another film with the Shahenshah of Bollywood, soon enough. But Piku would not only have been Pari’s first opposite Bachchan Sr, but also have had Irrfan Khan and Bachchan together on 70mm for the first time. But life throws a curve ball every now and then, hai na? And now Shoojit needs to find a new leading lady.
We have a few suggestions that the filmmaker could consider. You tell us which you think would work best….
Deepika Padukone: No, we are not suggesting her name because she is the flavour of the season. Rumours suggest that Dippy has replaced Kareena Kapoor Khan in the Karan Johar camp after the success of Cocktail, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela. And if you remember, DP played Big B’s daughter in Aarakshan and even though the film didn’t do well, the duo made a wonderful father-daughter jodi onscreen. This time around perhaps they could do the same roles with more comfort and have a successful run at the box office.
Priyanka Chopra: She calls herself the ‘official actor for Bachchan film remakes’ and considering her track record (Don, Agneepath and Zanjeer), we couldn’t agree more with the Exotic babe.PeeCee has been lucky enough to share screen space with Bachchan in Waqt and God Tussi Great Ho, but the two together have no successes to their credit. With one Chopra out, the other Chopra can be a perfect replacement, hai na?
Katrina Kaif: She was Sarkar’s bahu in Ram Gopal Verma’s version of Godfather. Kat debuted inBoom, which also featured the Big B. The Dhoom:3 babe and the Paa actor have not done their thing together onscreen after Sarkar, and would welcome an opportunity like this, we are sure. Also, considering Ms Kaif’s new record of having worked with all the Khans, she could add the legendary Bachchan to her list. Perhaps Bachchan Sr could help Kat improve her acting and her Hindi diction, something that no Khan or Kumar has managed to do.
Anushka Sharma: The Bombay Velvet actor and Parineeti have a lot in common. Apart from being Yash Raj babes, they are most promising actors today and have delivered the goods with every film. Anushka can fit into any character and will definitely make Bachchan’s beautiful beti memorable. And wethinks she can match his acting calibre. Do you?
Vidya Balan: The Dirty Picture babe and Bachchan did well together in Paa. She was Big B’s mother in the film, but we’re sure the versatile actor can finally play her age to become his onscreen daughter. And we know Vids would rise to this challenge too, like she has so many others…
BollywoodLifers, you tell us – who would be the best choice to play Amitabh Bachchan’s daughter in Piku?
